New Jersey Solar

In 2020 alone, New Jersey has made headlines with three major clean energy initiatives:

  • Transition plans to 100% clean energy by 2050
  • 7.5 megawatts of offshore wind by 2035
  • Proposal to spearhead an “Office of Clean Energy & Equity”

Joseph Fiordaliso, President of the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities, says the proposed Office of Clean Energy & Equity is to

“…ensure the fact that every community, regardless of income, regardless of where they live, is afforded the opportunity to participate in the green revolution that is occurring in the state of New Jersey…”

Mr. Fiordaliso went on to say that as a state, New Jersey

“…cannot be successful … if everyone is not involved … everyone should be involved because everyone pays into it … to say it’s only for the super-rich doesn’t sit well with me or Gov. [Phi] Murphy.”

Since the state’s investment into solar energy in the early 2000s, they have completed over 140,000 installations and created over 7,000 jobs. Fiordaliso anticipates the same trend to happen with the latest investment in wind, but ideally on an even bigger scale.
